According to online sources, Apple is working on a third-generation Studio Display (codenamed J527). This version of the device will likely follow the second-generation Studio Display, which is already being discussed in the media and is being developed under the name J427. The functional advantages of the third-generation monitor are still unknown. This was stated by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

Last month, Gurman wrote that Apple had begun developing a second-generation proprietary display codenamed J427, which is planned for release in 2026. According to the journalist, this will be the second-generation Studio Display, not the new Pro Display. Now, he says that Apple is also working on another display, codenamed J527.
«Now here’s another twist. I’m told Apple is working on a second new monitor, codenamed J527. At this point, it seems unlikely that this is a second-generation device, given the time between updates and the fact that J427 is still a long way off,” Gurman said in a statement.
The journalist suggests that the J427 and J527 may not be separate products, but different versions of the second-generation Studio Display prototype. This makes sense, considering that more than 3 years have passed since the debut of the original Studio Display, and the launch of the second-generation model is rumored to be more than a year away.
Gurman does not rule out that the J527 could be a second model of the next generation, for example with a different screen size or different specifications. He also mentions that the Pro Display XDR has not been updated for almost 6 years.
