The inexpensive Apple iPhone 16e, based on the results of the incomplete first quarter of sales, took a share of 7% of all iPhones sold in the US, thereby showing itself to be better than its predecessor: the share of the iPhone SE in the same period last year was lower, according to statistics from the analytical company CIRP (Consumer Intelligence Research Partners).

The entire iPhone 16 lineup, which now includes five models with the introduction of the 16e, accounted for 74% of total iPhone sales in the US in Q1 2025. And that’s a significant increase over the previous lineup — the iPhone 15 had 68% for the same period in 2024. The positive dynamics were largely driven by the iPhone 16e, but some shifts were seen across the entire lineup.

The base iPhone 16 showed a decent growth of up to 20% – for comparison, the iPhone 15 had only 14% in Q1 last year. But the top models showed some decline: the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max together accounted for 38% of iPhone sales – the iPhone 15 Pro duo had 45% last year. In particular, the iPhone 16 Pro showed a decline from 22% to 17%.

The data suggests that Apple’s strengthening of its mid-range offerings has generally worked, with more consumers choosing the entry-level iPhone 16 over the Pro models. The iPhone 16e also attracted customers who would otherwise have opted for previous-generation models. Older iPhones, or models more than a year old, saw sales decline to 26%, down from 32% a year earlier, helped by the discontinuation of the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and 14 Plus in the past quarter.
