Apple finally admitted that the new generation Carplay will not appear in 2024

Apple has updated the CarPlay web page to remove the release date for its update, which is slated for 2024. As reported by MacRumors, the company removed the message about the upcoming release of the next generation of the CarPlay system in 2024 without adding a new launch date.

According to Apple, the current ‌CarPlay‌ platform is available in more than 98% of new vehicles sold in the US over the past few years. And although the company has not indicated an adjusted release date for the next generation of CarPlay, there is evidence that Apple is preparing it, The Verge writes.

In particular, the iOS 18.3 beta released last month contains references to the next generation of ‌CarPlay‌, and Apple recently submitted new images of it to the EU database. Apple also indicated in a media statement that it is working closely with several automakers who will be introducing new CarPlay features. “Each car brand will share more details as we approach the announcements of their models that will support the next generation of CarPlay,” the company said.

In December 2023, the Aston Martin and Porsche presented the next generation CarPlay dashboard, but not one of these brands has yet released a car with an updated system. Apple said during the announcement of Carplay in 2022 that among other automakers who are ready to support Carplay, such brands as Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Ren Ault and Volvo. Given the fact that this list was compiled more than two and a half years ago, it is unclear whether all these automakers retained commitment to this idea, Macrumors noted.
