Apple closed this week a project to create augmented reality points relied on the computing capabilities of the Mac connected, said Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. A wearable device with a code designation N107 was supposed to look like ordinary glasses, while possessing built -in displays and support for augmented reality technology.

Apple Vision Pro

The project was considered as a potentially promising direction of developing a wearable device after an unsuccessful debut of the Apple Vision Pro headset worth $ 3499, which turned out to be too cumbersome and expensive in order to gain popularity among consumers. The developers tried to create something that would like ordinary users, but it turned out to be a difficult task to create “the right technology at the right price”, Gourmet said.

Initially, Apple developers wanted glasses to pair with the iPhone, but the computing power of the smartphone and the capacity of its battery was not enough to ensure the full operation of the device. Therefore, they decided to use the Mac conjugated computer, which has faster processors and more powerful batteries, but the capabilities of smart points with the connection to the MAC were far from the desired, the prototype functions were constantly changing and as a result in the company decided to close the project.

It is reported that the augmented reality glasses that Apple worked on were easier than the Vision Pro and did not require the head belt, and there was also no screen on the front panel showing the user’s eyes. For them, lenses were created that could change the shade depending on what the user is doing, for example, signaling others that he is busy with work.

Although the Apple project to create augmented reality points has been suspended, the company continues to work on basic technologies that can be used in augmented reality in the future, including special Microled screens. Apple also creates the successor of the Vision Pro headset, which, according to Gurman, will appear next year.

The competitor of Apple, META✴ demonstrated its augmented reality Orion, which are still at the prototype stage and cost more than $ 10,000. The company plans to release them by 2027.
