Anker 335 Power Banks subject to recall due to fire risk

In early June, the Anker brand recalled three products from the market due to the risk of fire during use. Now, for a similar reason, the manufacturer is recalling Anker 335 Power Bank (A1647), which were produced between January and June 2024.

Let us remind you that Anker 335 Power Bank is an external battery for charging devices via USB Type-C and UCB Type-A interfaces with a maximum power of up to 22.5 W. The capacity of the device is 20,000 mAh.

«We have discovered that some lithium ion cells used in our Anker 335 Power Bank (Model A1647) may be hazardous due to a risk of fire due to a manufacturing defect. Overheating of the battery can potentially lead to the melting of plastic elements, the generation of smoke, and the risk of fire,” the company said in a statement.

It is not clear from Anker’s message whether the problem affects all products in the specified series, or just some specific batches. Users of Anker devices can use the serial number to check on the manufacturer’s website whether the problem affects the power bank they have.

Batteries that are at risk of fire should be discontinued and disposed of according to regulations, for example through designated recycling centers. It is not clear from Anker’s publication whether users will be reimbursed for the cost of defective devices or whether the manufacturer will offer to replace them with something equivalent.
