Google is working on integrating a battery status indicator that will help you understand why your Android phone is draining faster over time. It’s similar to a feature that arrived in iOS in 2018, but it won’t be available on older Android phones, which are likely to need it the most.

This is reported by online sources that cite a Google developer who stated that the battery health indicator feature will only appear in the Pixel 8A and newer smartphone models. He also added that Google does not plan to expand the availability of this feature, since it is “not feasible.” This is stated in the developer’s message on the Android Issue Tracker website in response to a question from Pixel 6 and Pixel 8 Pro owners regarding the availability of the battery health indicator.

«Status: Will not be fixed (not feasible). Thanks for reporting this. The battery status indicator feature is currently supported in Beta 3 on Pixel 8a and Pixel 9 devices, including the 9 Pro Fold. Due to product limitations, this feature will not be available on older Pixel devices,” the developer said in a statement.

Google began testing the battery status indicator among Android 16 beta testers in March. However, work on this or a similar feature has been ongoing since 2023. Why exactly it will be available only on the Pixel 8a and Pixel 9 is not yet specified.
