To combat fraud, the Android 16 operating system will be able to block the installation of applications from third -party sources during the call, as well as close access to special capabilities.

There are too many types of telephone fraud today, and with the advent of the AI voice functions, the situation will only aggravate. Crooks resort to various tricks to lure money from gullible citizens or gain access to their accounts – the number of victims of criminal schemes is growing every day. To fight scammers, Google has prepared a new security function for Android 16, which blocks the change in some settings during phone calls. It can complicate the scammers with the task and make the likely victims think twice before installing and starting malicious applications.
To implement fraudulent schemes, criminals often force victims to establish malicious applications and give privileges to these applications. The average person often does not know how to download and install on Android applications from third -party sources, so scammers remain on the line and lead the victims in the process. At this point, a new Android 16 security function may turn out to be useful – if the phone call is active, the system will not allow the user to enable permission to install applications from third -party sources, because malicious ones are often downloaded not from official apps of applications.
Fraudsters, of course, can ask the victim to hang a tube, load the application and call back. But this can violate the chain of actions, give the victim time to change his mind and arouse suspicion in her. The dialog box, which is shown when trying to resolve the loading from third -party sources, contains a warning that scammers often request this action, and the recommendation to be careful. Another protective measure will be the blocking of special capabilities during the call – malicious applications will not be able to read the contents of the screen and perform actions on behalf of the user. This means that it will be more difficult for fraudsters to get full control over the devices of victims.
These opportunities were found by journalists of the Android Authority resource in the assembly of Android 16 Beta 2, but so far they are inactive. Probably, they will begin to work to the release of the public version of Android 16 in the spring of this year. They are based on the Enhanced Confirmation Mode, which debuted in Android 15 – it complicates with third -party sources access to important privileges.
