Android 15 may introduce notification synchronization between devices

Google intends to make life easier for owners of multiple Android devices by syncing notifications. The new feature will arrive in Android 15 and will eliminate the need to manually delete duplicate notifications across devices.

Users with multiple Android devices often face the problem of duplicate notifications. Many apps send notifications to all devices on which they are installed, but the status of these notifications is not synchronized. For example, if you delete a notification on your phone, it will remain on your tablet. But it looks like things may soon change for the better.

Hints of a new feature were found in the code of the latest Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2, released last week. A line containing the text “sync across devices” was found. According to Android Authority, this code presumably points to a new option that will appear in the Settings – Notifications section. Although Google did not provide a detailed description of the function, its location in the notification settings suggests that we are talking about synchronization between devices.

A detailed breakdown of the code that Android Authority analyzed also indicates that the feature will not only be available on Pixel smartphones, since classes in the com.android.settings namespace are typically part of the AOSP Settings app, available on all Android devices, in while the com.google.android.settings classes are only present in the Pixel version of the app.

It would probably make sense if Google made notification syncing available on all Android devices as part of its new cross-device services feature package. However, there is no official confirmation of this yet and it is possible that the option will only work on Pixel devices. Either way, the company is clearly trying to solve a common problem among users who own multiple Android devices.
