AMD sold ten times more Radeon RX 9070s than usual immediately after debut

The first phase of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 video cards announcement took place in early January, but they went on sale towards the end of the first quarter. AMD CEO Lisa Su admitted that this debut was the most successful for the company in terms of the number of video cards sold, which was ten times higher than the typical level for this stage of the life cycle of new products.

The head of AMD made such statements during her week-long tour of Asian countries, as explained on the pages of a popular social network in China by one of the bloggers, presumably representing the interests of the Taiwanese brand Asus. For AMD, the debut of the Radeon RX 9070 family turned out to be the most successful in the entire history of the company. Apparently, a significant pause between the first phase of the announcement and the start of sales of commercial video cards allowed AMD partners to accumulate a sufficient stock of products. Nevertheless, the first batch was sold out quickly even under these conditions.

In its first week on the market, the Radeon RX 9070 series has delivered ten times the sales volume of any of its predecessors at a comparable stage in its life cycle. Shipments continue to increase, so AMD and its partners are set to cover demand in adequate proportions.

AMD’s success is even more remarkable against the backdrop of the disastrous debut of Nvidia’s new-generation graphics cards. Despite the fact that the first GeForce RTX 50-series went on sale back in January, it is still problematic to purchase them. The cards remain in severe shortage in many countries, new batches are quickly sold out, and it is generally impossible to find an accelerator at the recommended price – prices are often inflated by 1.5-2 times.
