AMD revealed what the gaming performance of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D will be like

The upcoming flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D will offer “comparable” levels of gaming performance to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, considered the best gaming processor on the market. AMD product and business development manager Martijn Boonstra said this in a conversation with the VideoGamer portal.

According to Boonstra, AMD expects the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D to “deliver broadly similar gaming performance to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D.”

«Some games will run better (if the game engine uses more cores and threads), some games will run a little worse (if the game engine runs better on single-die CCD configurations), but overall the experience will be comparable,” Boonstra said.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is largely tailored to the gaming market and has gained significant popularity due to its support for additional overclocking. Since the Ryzen 7 9800X3D’s release, enthusiasts and overclockers have been able to overclock the processor to an impressive 7.4 GHz and have achieved stable performance at 6.9 GHz, with AMD’s stated maximum frequency of 5.2 GHz for the chip.

Based solely on the stated characteristics, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D look significantly more productive than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The first has 16 cores and a stated frequency of up to 5.7 GHz, the second is equipped with 12 cores and operates at a frequency of up to 5.5 GHz. Also, older models have more cache memory: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D has 144 MB (L2 + L3), and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D has 140 MB (L2 + L3). The total amount of cache memory for the same Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 104 MB.

Despite the announcement of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D, AMD has not yet announced the prices of these processors. The manufacturer promised to name them closer to the release of the chips. The new processors should go on sale in the first quarter of 2025, that is, by the end of March.
