AMD Introduces AFMF 2.1 Frame Generator for Better FPS Boosts in Any Game

Along with the announcement of the next-generation Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards, AMD also introduced the new Adrenalin drivers version 25.3.1. Along with a number of other AI-based features, the new drivers include Fluid Motion Frames 2.1 (AFMF 2.1) gaming frame generation technology for increased FPS. This is an improved version of AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 technology, which features improved frame quality.

AMD claims that AFMF 2.1 improves temporal tracking, resulting in more accurately generated frames. Unlike the Radeon Image Sharpening 2 technology that was introduced at the same time, AFMF 2.1 does not only support the latest generation of RDNA 4-based graphics cards, but works on all AMD graphics cards starting with the RDNA 2 architecture, i.e., Radeon RX 6000 series and newer. According to AMD, the improved Fluid Motion Frames 2.1 technology optimizes texture mapping and reduces the number of artifacts associated with aliasing. Halos around high-contrast objects are also reduced.

AMD specifically highlighted the joint work of the AFMF 2.1 function and the HYPR-RX software stack, which combines many performance-enhancing features in games. The company presented the results of comparative tests of games in native 4K resolution with games in 4K resolution with the FSR 2 quality mode enabled and the AFMF 2.1 function activated. Judging by the graphs, the frame rate increases more than 2 times.

With AFMF 2.1, AMD has improved the image quality of its Frame Generation technology at the driver level. In games that do not have built-in frame generation support, Fluid Motion Frames 2.1 provides what AMD claims is “increased gameplay smoothness.”
