AMD introduced Ryzen AI Max mobile chips – their integrated graphics are faster than the RTX 4090 in AI

AMD, as part of a large-scale presentation at CES 2025, introduced many new processors, including Ryzen AI Max and Ryzen AI Max PRO series chips for productive laptops with AI functions. The new products are distinguished by high performance integrated graphics, a powerful central processor and a powerful AI engine NPU, reports WCCFTech.

AMD introduced three Ryzen AI Max series processors, which are equipped with 8, 12 or 16 Zen 5 cores and support from 16 to 32 threads. The clock speed of these chips reaches 5.1 GHz. The Ryzen AI Max PRO series, aimed at business laptops and other work systems, includes models with similar characteristics, as well as the younger Ryzen AI Max PRO 380 model with six cores, 12 threads and a clock speed of up to 4.9 GHz.

The performance of the built-in neural processor based on the XDNA2 architecture reaches an impressive 50 TOPS (trillion operations per second). Thanks to this, computers based on the new processors will comply with Copilot+PC requirements.

The built-in graphics attracts particular attention. The flagship integrated graphics AMD Radeon 8060S, part of the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and Ryzen AI Max+ 395 PRO processors, has 40 compute units on the RDNA 3.5 architecture and a frequency of up to 2900 MHz. We also note the high bandwidth of the memory controller – 256 GB/s, which will also have a positive effect on graphics performance.


AMD emphasizes that with powerful integrated graphics, the new products are great for rendering, gaming, and even working with large AI language models. In rendering tasks, the processors are on average 2.6 times faster than the integrated Intel Arc graphics included in the Core Ultra 9 288V. In synthetic tests of the 3DMark package, the superiority is about 40%. In addition, AMD claims that its processors are faster than the Apple M4 Pro used in the MacBook M4 Pro.


However, the most impressive comparison is the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 desktop graphics card. According to AMD, the new product is up to 2.2 times faster than this graphics card, which remains Nvidia’s flagship, while the TDP level of the AMD chip is 87% lower.

It should be noted that Ryzen AI Max processors are not limited to the low TDP levels typical of mobile chips. The power consumption level can be adjusted by the manufacturer in the range from 45 to 120 W, which makes them suitable for both powerful laptops and compact but productive desktop computers.

Laptops based on AMD Ryzen AI Max and AMD Ryzen AI Max PRO will go on sale during the first and second quarters of this year. There is no word yet on the cost of such systems.
