AMD representatives commented on the ongoing shortage of the flagship Ryzen 9 9800X3D processor, which is recognized as one of the best solutions for gamers. According to the company, demand for the chips was much higher than expected due to weak competition from Intel due to the low performance of Intel Arrow Lake processors.

AMD also explained that processors with 3D V-Cache take significantly longer to produce than conventional chips. According to the head of the company, David McAfee, the process of creating such processors takes more than three months due to the complex technology of laying additional cache layers on the main chip. “We have increased production capacity, but it takes time. We expect the situation to improve in the first half of the year,” he said.
Despite the shortage, AMD does not plan to rely on processors with more cores to reduce the load on 8-core models. McAfee emphasized that the popularity of 8-core processors in the X3D line is much higher than that of 12- and 16-core models, since the latter are more suitable for professionals rather than gamers.
Intel, in turn, has not yet presented a competitive technology that can pose a real threat to AMD in the premium segment of gaming processors. According to Intel spokesman Jim Johnson, the company is “committed to leadership in every segment,” but is not ready to disclose details about future products. However, there are no leaks or signs of new Intel technology being developed that can compete with 3D V-Cache technology.
