AMD did not deceive: Windows 11 24H2 dramatically increased the performance of the Ryzen 9000 and not only in games

Recently it became known about a bug with user rights in Windows 11, which can reduce the performance of not only Ryzen 9000 processors on the Zen 5 architecture, but also previous generations of chips on Zen 3 and Zen 4. AMD has promised that the problem will be fixed with the release of an update Windows 11 24H2. The Hardware Unboxed YouTube channel tested the new chips in a test build of the new OS version – AMD’s words were confirmed.

Hardware Unboxed conducted gaming tests of the Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 7 9700X processors using the current Windows 11 23H2 and the preview version of Windows 11 24H2, available to members of the Windows Insider program. Based on the results of testing in more than 40 games, the average performance increase when working in the Windows 11 24H2 environment was 10% for the Ryzen 7 7700X and 11% for the Ryzen 7 9700X. The maximum increase in productivity in some cases was up to 36%.

Let us recall that AMD previously announced that Windows 11 24H2 will provide a performance increase of several percent for Ryzen 9000 and more mature processors. Thanks to this, the fresh Ryzen 9000 will be able to look more advantageous against the background of 14th generation Intel Core chips (Raptor Lake Refresh).

Previously, AMD also explained that a bug in Windows prevents the branch prediction module (branch prediction) that its latest generation chips have from being used correctly. Ryzen 9000 processors have greater branch prediction capabilities than previous generations of chips. This is why AMD previously reported that Zen 5 chips are most susceptible to this issue. However, as Hardware Unboxed tests show, the Windows 11 24H2 update also improves the performance of Zen 4 processors.
