AMD CPU and GPU Share Jumps in Steam Statistics, Windows 11 Re-Becomes Most Popular OS

The share of Windows 11 users on the Steam platform continues to grow. Windows 11 still lags behind Windows 10 in the global market, but it continues to gain popularity among gamers, according to a fresh report from the Valve store. In addition, the share of AMD users, both processors and video cards, increased sharply in March.

According to the latest Steam report for March, the share of Windows 11 users on the platform is 55.34% of all machines that took part in the survey. Let us remind you that participation in the study is entirely voluntary, so the final data does not represent 100% of all platform users. After a strange decline in February, Windows 11 has regained its title of the most popular OS – its share has grown by 11.24 percentage points in a month. The second most popular operating system on the platform is Windows 10 with a share of 40.58 (it has decreased by 12.76 percentage points in a month).

With Windows 10 ending support in October this year, its users should not be expected to disappear from Steam statistics. For example, the long-outdated Windows 7 is still present, used by 0.11% of survey participants (the OS has increased by 0.01 percentage points in March). Overall, Windows operating systems still dominate Steam. Their total share is 96.10% (-1.48 percentage points over the month). Linux is the second most popular platform with 2.33% of users (an increase of 0.88 percentage points in March), and macOS is in third place with a share of 1.58% of users (+0.61 percentage points last month).

The most popular graphics card on the Steam platform was once again the GeForce RTX 3060. In March, its share decreased by 1.77 p.p. and amounted to 5.10%. However, the share of the RTX 4060, which was the most popular card in February, decreased even more in March (-3.80 p.p.) and now amounts to 4.77%. An interesting detail of the March statistics was the appearance of the first graphics card from the GeForce RTX 5000 series in the rating. We are talking about the RTX 5080 model, which accounted for 0.20% of platform users in March.

The most popular AMD graphics card on Steam is still the Radeon RX 6600 with a share of 0.89% (+0.25 p.p. over the month). At the same time, the share of AMD Radeon graphics cards on the platform jumped sharply to 16.87%, while a month earlier this figure was 11.5%. Nvidia’s share decreased to 75.05%, while Intel’s increased to 7.74%.

The popularity of Intel processors last month fell by 6.59 p.p., while AMD chips grew by 6.55 p.p. In general terms, Intel is still ahead. In March, the share of Intel processors was 62.30%, while AMD’s was 37.62%.
