Amazon’s Tomb Raider Series Looks ‘Dead’ – ‘Tens of Millions of Dollars’ Invested in Project, Not Even a Script Ready

The live-action series based on the Tomb Raider adventure action series from Crystal Dynamics, confirmed by Amazon last spring, is not only in no hurry to premiere, but also risks not seeing the light of day at all.

Amazon’s Tomb Raider series is not moving forward, sources tell the Daily Mail. One source claims the ambitious project is “dead.”

The Daily Mail believes that the situation around the series was influenced by the recent departure of Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke, who personally gave the green light to the show.

According to Puck, under Sulkey’s watch, Tomb Raider has gone through two writing teams but still hasn’t secured a working script – the show has already spent “tens of millions of dollars.”

Tomb Raider is written and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was signed to a $20 million-a-year deal by Amazon five years ago but has yet to receive a single project in return.

Amazon’s Tomb Raider series was supposed to be a “thrilling adventure that pays homage to the legacy of the iconic character.” Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner was tipped to play Lara Croft.

Amazon is also planning to release a new game in the series, which Crystal Dynamics is developing on Unreal Engine 5. The project is positioned as a single-player story-driven adventure that continues the story of the “confident and multifaceted” Lara Croft.
