Altman promised access to the thinking AI model o3-mini in the free version of ChatGPT

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that the free version of the ChatGPT chatbot will switch to the advanced o3-mini artificial intelligence model, which has the ability to think. This promises a significant jump in the chatbot’s intellectual abilities and an increase in the quality of its responses.

«Big news: the free tier of ChatGPT will receive o3-mini! Unfortunately, the head of OpenAI did not provide details about the timing of ChatGPT’s transition to a new neural network.

Last week, Altman also reported via X that OpenAI has completed development of the o3-mini and is scheduled to launch within the next few weeks. Recall that OpenAI’s o3 and o3-mini large language models with reasoning capabilities were introduced in December last year. They are positioned as the smartest AI models in the world.

The o3 and o3-mini models are superior in performance and capabilities to the thinking AI model o1, which is currently available to paid users of ChatGPT. Free users are limited to the GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini models. According to OpenAI, the o3 model is superior to its predecessors in all areas. In the ARC-AGI test, specifically designed to compare AI capabilities with human intelligence, the o3 model achieved a result of 88%.
