Between 20% and 30% of the code in Microsoft’s repositories is “written by software,” or artificial intelligence, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said during a conversation with Meta✴ Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg at LlamaCon this week.

Nadella cited these figures in response to Zuckerberg’s question about how much of the company’s software code is currently created using artificial intelligence. The head of Microsoft added that generative neural networks show different results when writing code depending on the programming language. Such algorithms have achieved the greatest success when working with Python, and are less effective with C++. In response to a similar question from Nadella addressed to Zuckerberg, the head of Meta✴ noted that he does not have data on how much of the software code in his company is created by AI.

Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott previously predicted that up to 95% of software code would be generated by AI algorithms by 2030. Not long ago, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that AI generates more than 30% of the company’s software code. It should be noted that the figures voiced are most likely very approximate, since it is unclear how companies measure what is created by AI and what is created by programmers.
