AirPods will learn to measure pulse, temperature and “many physiological indicators”

Rumors about Apple’s intention to implement support for a number of functions in its AirPods headphones to track the user’s health status have been circulating for quite some time. Now this information has been confirmed by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who also talked about what users should expect.

According to the source, Apple plans to add support for several functions to AirPods to track the user’s body condition. First of all, we are talking about monitoring heart rate, as well as measuring body temperature. In addition to this, the developers intend to create new sensors to track “multiple physiological indicators.” At this stage, the first priority is to add a heart rate sensor to the design of the headphones.

According to Gurman, through internal testing, Apple found that the Apple Watch can provide more accurate heart rate data. This feature will later be transferred to AirPods. A timeline for the implementation of this and other body tracking features has not been announced, but Gurman says they will be rolled out gradually “over the coming years.”

Apple is also working on adding cameras to AirPods. This project was previously canceled, but it was resumed amid Apple’s growing interest in developing products based on artificial intelligence. Gurman notes that this is a priority project for departments involved in the development of AI algorithms, as well as for AirPods developers, but at least two years will pass before its implementation.
