AI features coming to Copilot Plus PC laptops powered by the latest Intel and AMD chips only in November

New AI-powered Windows 11 features will appear on select Copilot Plus PC class laptops with the latest AMD and Intel chips in November, The Verge reported. At the moment, AI functions are only available on new models based on Qualcomm Arm processors, although laptops on AMD chips that meet the hardware requirements of the Copilot Plus PC have already been put on sale.

Intel today unveiled Intel Core Ultra 200V processors, codenamed Lunar Lake, which will begin receiving Copilot Plus PC features later this year. “All projects with Intel Core Ultra 200V series processors and running the latest version of Windows will be able to receive Copilot Plus PC features as a free upgrade starting in November,” Intel said in a press release.

Microsoft previously told The Verge that laptops with Intel Lunar Lake and AMD Strix Point processors will receive a free update to add Copilot Plus PC AI features “as they become available,” without specifying dates. Now the company says new Copilot Plus PCs with Intel and AMD chips will get new AI features in November, and some “selected features may be previewed in the Windows Insider community” before their full rollout.

Laptops in the Copilot Plus PC category will get Microsoft’s new Auto Super Resolution feature, a DLSS competitor that improves frame rates in games by upscaling content. It uses the capabilities of the neural processing unit (NPU) to relieve the central processor and graphics accelerator from scaling processing. Copilot Plus PCs also support Image Cocreate features, enhanced Windows Studio effects, and use the NPU to accelerate applications such as DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Microsoft is also planning to roll out a Recall feature on Copilot Plus PCs, which had to be delayed due to possible privacy concerns. The company intends to release it to Windows Insider testers in October before the feature arrives on laptops as part of a Windows OS update.
