Adobe Photoshop has learned to remove reflections in windows and shop windows

Adobe has introduced a new experimental tool that removes window reflections from photos. The feature was originally demonstrated at the Adobe Max 2023 event, and then it was called Project See Through – now it can be used by Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Bridge users with a Creative Cloud subscription, and it will soon appear in Adobe Lightroom.

Amateur photographers who have ever taken photos through a store window have probably encountered their own reflection in the frame or light reflections that spoil the picture. A tool called Reflection Removal allows you to remove them with minimal effort.

Using artificial intelligence, it separates two images: the reflection in the window and what is on the other side of this window. To implement this function, Adobe trained the AI on several thousand pairs of photographs in their original form and with reflections artificially superimposed on them. The model was tasked with determining which of two images was the original and which was the composite.

The tool is most effective at removing reflections that take up the entire field of view in an image, and it is almost unable to remove “reflections in windows that are small or far away”, as well as reflections “in wine glasses, on car bodies, or clouds reflected in a lake ” The Reflection Removal function is enabled separately through the Camera RAW plugin settings.
