Acer: in a year, 40% of PCs shipped will be Copilot+ PC compliant

PC manufacturers are excited about the prospect of bringing Copilot+ PC-compliant models to market to accelerate local AI systems. Acer expects that such computers will account for up to 40% of its product shipments by the third quarter of 2025.

Even in the absence of an Internet connection, such PCs will be able to generate images based on text descriptions or translate speech from one language to another in real time. Acer is going to differentiate its Copilot+ PC family of products from its competitors by equipping its computers of this class with additional function keys. An activity indicator will appear in the touchpad area, which will be highlighted when using a specialized coprocessor to process AI commands.

Acer is going to release Copilot+ PCs equipped with processors from all developers approved for this family of systems by Microsoft, as Jason Chen, CEO of the Taiwanese manufacturer, admitted in an interview with Nikkei. In addition to Qualcomm, Intel and AMD are going to supply compatible processors. In Japan, the first laptops with support for these functions are now offered at a price of $1800, their share does not exceed a couple of percent in the supply structure of Acer products. First of all, the company is going to increase the volume of deliveries of Copilot+ PC in the corporate segment; in a year their share should increase to 40%.

Let us remember that rival Lenovo expects to bring this figure closer to 10% this year, and in 2026 to reach the 50 or 60% mark. Central processors for Copilot+ PCs will become cheaper next year, according to Acer management, and this will increase supply volumes of the corresponding PCs. According to Gartner forecasts, the PC market as a whole will grow by 4% to 250.4 million units by the end of this year.
