Earlier this month, sales of the updated compact Apple Mac mini computer began, the hardware basis of which was proprietary Apple M4 processors. It is quite logical that some bloggers rushed to disassemble the new product in order to demonstrate the internal layout and evaluate its maintainability. In the process, it was discovered that the Mac mini could expand its storage capacity, but this would require certain skills.

The author of the Snazzy Labs channel published a very informative video, which clearly demonstrates the disassembly of the Mac mini and gives the most complete assessment of the new Apple mini-computer. In the Mac mini, the developers used a removable solid-state drive – in the basic version it is 256 GB of memory, formed from a pair of NAND flash memory chips of 128 GB each. However, Apple uses a proprietary interface, so standard M.2 SSDs will not work as a replacement. But still, having certain technical skills, you can increase the amount of memory with a Mac mini.
Enthusiasts from the YouTube channel dosdude1 managed to expand the disk space of the basic mini-computer model from 256 GB to 1 TB. To do this, they removed the original NAND flash memory chips from the board using a heat gun, prepared the larger capacity chips for installation, then soldered them to the board and performed the Mac mini recovery process in DFU mode.
Although ordinary users are unlikely to be able to use this method of expanding disk space, the video clearly demonstrates the technical possibility of increasing data storage space. However, this will not be possible without certain skills in working with hardware.
