The base configuration of the new iMac with the Apple M4 processor offers 16 GB of unified RAM. Users have criticized Apple for using only 8 GB of base RAM since 2012, when the first MacBook Pro was introduced with a Retina display.
Notably, Apple still sells the M3 14-inch MacBook Pro, M3 iMac, and M3 MacBook Air laptops with 8GB of RAM as base RAM, forcing consumers to pay $200 extra for the extra RAM.
It is expected that all future Mac computers from Apple will be offered with at least 16 GB of unified (built-in CPU) RAM. According to Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman, Apple is testing four new Mac models, all of which offer 16 or 32 GB of memory.
The new iMacs feature a 24-inch Retina display with 4.5K resolution. A special nano-coating is available as an option for the display to reduce glare. The all-in-one is also equipped with a new 12-megapixel Center Stage camera with a wide-angle lens and Desk View mode, which allows you to simultaneously show the user and an overhead view of his workplace.
The new computer also offers up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports, up to 32 GB of unified memory and new accessories in the color of the all-in-one PC, equipped with a USB-C connector. The new iMac starts at $1,299.
Pre-orders for the new iMac are open today. Deliveries of the new monoblock will begin on November 8. Apple is also expected to introduce new MacBook Pro laptop models and a new Mac Mini nettop this week.
