Chinese e-reader company Onyx has released the Boox Mira Pro Color, the world’s first 25.3-inch monitor with an E Ink color panel. The device is primarily designed for office tasks, as its screen does not flicker, which reduces eye strain during long work hours.

According to ComputerBase, the new product is equipped with a display with a resolution of 3200 × 1800 pixels (145 ppi) and uses Kaleido 3 technology, which allows displaying 4096 colors and 16 levels of gray. The monitor is interesting in that it combines the advantages of electronic ink (black) with color rendering, which makes it ideal for working with text and graphics.
The main advantage of the Boox Mira Pro Color is the image that is gentle on the eyes, which is possible due to the absence of backlighting and flickering. However, E Ink technology also imposes some limitations. In particular, the monitor is not suitable for dynamic content, such as video or games. And although Onyx claims the Boox Super Refresh (BSR) function, which should improve responsiveness, tests show that traditional LCD screens remain unrivaled in this regard.
To optimize performance, the device offers four different modes that reduce the ghosting effect. Additional features Dark Color Enhancement and Light Color Filter improve contrast and color rendition in different lighting conditions. The monitor supports HDMI, Mini-HDMI, USB-C, and DisplayPort connections, and is compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and iPadOS. Built-in speakers allow you to play sound without additional devices.
The design also includes an adjustable stand with the ability to change height, tilt and rotate 90 degrees. If necessary, the monitor can be mounted on a wall using the standardized VESA bracket mounting system.
The price of the new product is $1900 (about 156,600 rubles), which obviously makes it a niche solution for those who are willing to pay for eye comfort.
