Apple previously admitted that it tried to make its Watch compatible with Android devices. In this way, it aimed to reach the billions of users of this platform. Ultimately, these plans failed, and Apple’s smartwatch still only works with the company’s devices. However, this may soon change. Vivo, a manufacturer of Android smartphones, has promised to overcome this barrier.

Chinese mobile device manufacturer Vivo is preparing to release a new foldable smartphone, the X Fold5. The company’s product manager, Han Boxiao, shared some of the features of this new product on Weibo. In particular, the smartphone will receive a screen with a brightness of 4500 cd/m², support for high-frequency PWM dimming, and TÜV Rheinland Global Eye Protection 3.0 certification. In addition to this, Boxiao made a truly unexpected statement – the X Fold5 will be compatible with Apple devices.

According to a Vivo executive, the X Fold5 will be the first Android smartphone to support the Apple Watch. Users will be able to see incoming calls and text messages on the Apple Watch screen, and health data collected by the watch can be synced with the Vivo Health app. In addition, Boxiao claims that the foldable smartphone will be able to connect to Apple’s iCloud cloud service, which is integrated into the device’s file management system.

The X Fold5 can also be used as a second screen for Mac computers. The smartphone will be compatible with AirPods wireless headphones and a remote control for Mac.

The X Fold5 doesn’t have an official release date yet, but the device is expected to be unveiled before the end of this month.
