Along with Quake, the list of exhibits this year also included the pet simulator Tamogotchi, the shooter GoldenEye 007 and the arcade game Defender. The nominees included Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Harvest Moon and Frogger.

The decision to induct Quake and the three other titles into the World Video Game Hall of Fame was announced at a special ceremony attended by the team’s Defender creators, led by group leader Eugene Jarvis, Quake co-creator John Romero, and Tara Badie, head of Tamagotchi at Bandai Namco.

Released in 1996, the shooter Quake was praised for its cutting-edge 3D engine and multiplayer mode, which helped shape the future of eSports. Last year, the Hall of Fame inducted Resident Evil, Myst, Ultima, SimCity, and Asteroids.
