The App Store generated $1.3 trillion in total transactions and sales in 2024, with food delivery services, mobile games, and in-app advertising driving the growth, according to Apple’s report.
Apple has published a study prepared by Analysis Group, according to which more than 90% of transactions in the App Store ecosystem were not subject to the company’s commission. According to 9to5Mac, of the $1.3 trillion in total volume, $131 billion came from digital goods and services, including games and apps for editing photos and videos. Sales of physical goods, such as groceries and food delivery, exceeded $1 trillion, and revenue from advertising in apps amounted to $150 billion.
Since 2019, the App Store’s turnover has more than doubled. Physical goods and services have shown the greatest growth, largely due to the popularity of delivery services. Digital goods have also grown rapidly thanks to games and content creation tools. At the same time, in-app advertising has allowed many services to remain free for users, according to Apple.
It should be noted that this is already Apple’s fourth report on the App Store in the past week. Previously, the company reported that in 2024, the US app store ecosystem provided $406 billion in transactions. Apple also announced the prevention of fraudulent transactions worth $2 billion and published a transparency report with data on traffic and security measures. It is noted that the activity of the tech giant is related to the upcoming WWDC25 conference, as well as the pressure of regulators on the App Store business model.
