At WWDC 2025, Apple unveiled Workout Buddy, a virtual trainer powered by artificial intelligence. The service analyzes a user’s current and past workouts, including distance covered, activity, pace, and overall load, and then offers recommendations in real time.

Workout Buddy is powered by Apple Intelligence technology. The system uses a text-to-speech model that delivers motivational comments in a voice similar to that of a real trainer. The voices were created using recordings of famous Fitness+ trainers such as James Heffernan and Cybill Moore. Users will be able to choose their favorite voice from several available options.

The Workout app on Apple Watch and iPhone will also receive an update and will be able to motivate users during a workout by analyzing key parameters, including heart rate and the speed at which a particular distance was covered. After the session, the system will provide a summary of key indicators and achievements, such as a reward for the first 10 km run.

Initially, the feature will support the most popular workout types in English only. At the same time, during the WWDC 2025 keynote, Apple emphasized that Workout Buddy is designed with an emphasis on user personalization and privacy.

The Workout app interface on Apple Watch will also become more convenient: functions such as Custom Workout and Race Route will be available in just one click. New music management options have also been added. In particular, Apple Music will be able to automatically select a playlist that matches the type of workout or the user’s preferences, or offer a selection based on previously listened to content.
