“You Unite the World”: Death Stranding Has Been Played by Over 20 Million People

Released five years ago, the unusual courier action game Death Stranding from the independent Japanese studio Kojima Productions is celebrating a new achievement ahead of the release of its sequel.

As it became known, the total audience of Death Stranding and its director’s cut on all target platforms exceeded 20 million people. This was reported by the official accounts of Kojima Productions on social networks.

It is worth noting that the mentioned indicator is not equal to sales. The developers last reported on them several years ago – by March 2021, Death Stranding on PC (Steam, EGS) and PS4 had been purchased more than 5 million times.

Since then, Death Stranding has received a director’s cut on PS5 and PC, Mac and iPhone 15 Pro, Xbox Series X and S, and has also joined the PC Game Pass library (and left the service). Last fall, the creators celebrated 19 million players.

The events of Death Stranding take place in the United States of the future, destroyed by temporal rain. Players take on the role of courier Sam Bridges by delivering cargo and avoiding otherworldly monsters to reunite a broken world.
