Electronic Arts has changed its mind about releasing The Sims 5, instead deciding to focus on the development of The Sims 4 and the development of the social Project Rene, new gameplay footage of which recently leaked into the public domain.

The PC Gamer portal has noticed that over the past week, several gameplay videos have been posted on YouTube demonstrating a test version of the mobile City Life Game With Friends, in which Project Rene can be discerned.
The released videos show the familiar plaza from previous Project Rene footage leaks, the iconic plumbob (green crystal) above the Sims’ heads, and also the spoken language of Simlish (the language of The Sims characters).
The longest video (attached above) of those published is over 20 minutes long and shows the process of customizing a character, meeting other Sims, working in a cafe, changing clothes, playing the guitar, and other activities.
While playtests are not inherently indicative of the final game’s quality, the cookie-cutter mobile interface and clearly interim lighting don’t help Project Rene’s case here.

The Sims fans are not impressed by the new Project Rene demos and are already burying the project in advance. “This is worse than my worst nightmare. Do they really think people will be interested in THIS?” Maggi1417 is indignant.
Project Rene is being developed for at least PC and mobile devices. It was previously reported that the game will be free-to-play and will feature multiplayer, crossplay, and reimaginings of familiar elements of the series.
