Ubisoft won’t abandon Skull and Bones after the first year of support – the company has a plan

The multiplayer pirate action game Skull and Bones from Ubisoft failed to generate a storm of interest among players, but the company does not plan to curtail support for the game. At least according to rumors.

According to insider Tom Henderson, citing sources familiar with the situation, Ubisoft is currently planning a second year of content support for Skull and Bones.

According to Henderson’s sources, the first season of the second year of support for Skull and Bones should launch in early 2025 and bring with it new PvP modes, points of interest, difficulty levels and other content.

Ubisoft is positioning Skull and Bones as an AAAA game

In addition to seasonal updates, Ubisoft is allegedly considering premium crossovers for Skull and Bones. One option for such an event, for example, could be timed to coincide with the release of the rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Sources say Skull and Bones remains popular and its player numbers “might surprise people.” Henderson could not find out specific data, but on Steam the peak online of the project has not exceeded 500 people for three months.

The insider decided to share Ubisoft’s plans for Skull and Bones in connection with the recent news about the imminent closure of the shareware shooter XDefiant. By the way, shortly before the announcement, the company assured that the game “is absolutely not dying.”

Skull and Bones was released on February 16 on PC (Ubisoft Connect, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and reached Steam in August. Ubisoft spent about $200 million on the game, and upon release it received mixed reviews from critics and devastating reviews from gamers.
