Ubisoft Releases Blockchain Game Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles Is a Tactical RPG with NFTs Worth Up to $63K

Three years ago, the French publisher and developer Ubisoft promised to start releasing games based on the blockchain and did not deceive. As noted by IGN, last week the company quietly launched such a project on PC.

The game is called Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles and is a tactical RPG with a focus on PvP, in which warrior figures fight in the fantasy world of Grimoria.

Players assemble squads of these figures and engage in turn-based combat reminiscent of Darkest Dungeon. From the release trailer (attached below) it is not even clear that this is a Web3 game, but the official website and microblog reveal the cards instantly.

Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is distributed using a shareware model, but to play you will need a Ubisoft account and a wallet supported by the blockchain project.

To increase the chances of success, you need to buy new fighters using in-game or cryptocurrency. The figures are NFTs and are sold by other players on a local marketplace – the price of one of the lots exceeds $63 thousand.

In the comments under the Champions Tactics release trailer (it received 40 likes with almost 600 dislikes), players are perplexed why Ubisoft plunged headlong into NFTs in 2024, when the hype around them has long passed.

The release of Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles took place on Ubisoft Connect back on October 23, but specialized media paid attention to the project only now. Ubisoft plans for 2025 to launch the second season of the game.
