According to BiohazardDeclassified, citing a “tester of an early version of Resident Evil 9,” the game takes place four years after the finale of Resident Evil Village (not the Shadows of Rose addon).
The plot of Resident Evil 9 supposedly revolves around the company that created Evelina from Resident Evil 7, and now has organized the mass production of her clones using the megamycelium received from Miranda (Resident Evil Village).

The main characters will be Leon Kennedy (resembling himself from the animated film Resident Evil: Damnation) and Jill Valentine with a design in the spirit of Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmares, with Chris Redfield and Barry Burton in supporting roles.
In the story, Leon and Jill are infected by megamycelium, which causes the couple to experience hallucinations and hear Evelina’s voice. The main villain will be a certain Mr. Simon, who oversees the production of biological weapons.
