The player discovered a secret message in the remake of Silent Hill 2 – the developers were afraid that the riddle would be too difficult

The fog-shrouded town of Silent Hill from Silent Hill 2 holds many secrets, but Konami’s remake of the cult horror game has recently lost one less secret. Warning: possible spoilers.

We are talking about the mystery of 26 Polaroids that protagonist James Sunderland can find throughout the game. The photographs were marked with numbers and accompanied by cryptic captions.

Almost a month after the release of the remake, user DaleRobinson from the Reddit forum reported that he had solved the mystery of the photos: each of them hid a clue to a letter in the caption, which added up to a secret message.

«I knew the secret wouldn’t last long! Although we had a theory in the office that the riddle might be too complicated. When I drew these photographs, I really wanted to make [the clues] not obvious,” recalls Lenart.

Gamers can’t agree on what exactly the secret message is hinting at – that fans have been playing Silent Hill 2 for over 20 years or that James is actually stuck in a time loop (a popular fan theory).

The remake of Silent Hill 2 was released on October 8 on PC (Steam) and PS5. The game has earned high marks from critics and users. Sales of the project in the first three days after release exceeded 1 million copies.
