The original version of the strategy Age of Empires III was removed from sale on Steam, access to multiplayer will be closed on October 30

Ensemble Studios’ strategy game Age of Empires III is no longer available on Steam, where it has been available since 2009. In a new message to fans, the developers also announced that Microsoft will no longer support the game’s multiplayer mode “due to the fact that the technology is no longer supported.”

For owners of the classic “troika”, access to the single-player campaign will remain. Other users are invited to familiarize themselves with Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, which was released in 2020.

«“This is a very smart and faithful modernization of the original game, including visual and usability improvements along with completely new content not available in the previous version,” is how the developers themselves described the remaster.

Age of Empires III went on sale on October 18, 2005 on PC and was quite warmly received by the public. The project’s rating on the Metacritic aggregator website is 81%, while the Definitive Edition has a slightly lower rating of 75%.
