The modest installation size of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will result in high Internet traffic consumption – up to 81 GB per hour

The recent announcement of the system requirements for the flight simulator Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024) pleasantly surprised players with low requirements for the amount of free disk space, but everything has its price.

According to developers from Asobo Studio, the new game downloads only the textures, meshes and map data needed at a particular moment in order to avoid unnecessary consumption of Internet traffic and inflating the size of the client.

Let us remind you that Microsoft Flight Simulator of the 2020 model occupied 150 GB of disk space (versus 50 GB for MSFS 2024), and when installing all the available DLCs, its size could reach 2 TB.

MSFS 2024 connection requirements range from 10 Mbit/s (minimum build) to 100 Mbit/s (“ideal”), however, as the technical “alpha” that began the other day showed, the game can consume up to 180 Mbit/s of traffic.

At maximum graphics settings in 4K resolution (DLSS in quality mode) with a rendering range of 400 units during a flight over New York, the game “eats” up to 180 Mbit/s, and with 200 units – up to 160 Mbit/s.

According to TechSpot journalists, at this rate, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 could consume 81 GB of Internet traffic per hour if the game does not receive additional optimizations ahead of the November 19 release.

Uploading most game resources to the cloud is an interesting solution, but users with a slower Internet connection may find downloading all materials during installation a more preferable option.
