‘The Journey Is More Important Than the Destination’: Skyblivion Lead Reacts to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Leak

In addition to the official remake of the cult fantasy role-playing game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion from Bethesda Game Studios, an unofficial one is currently being prepared for release. Its developers commented on recent events.

Let us recall that for more than 11 years now, the modding team from TESRenewal has been working on Skyblivion, an unofficial remake of Oblivion on the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The project is scheduled for release in 2025.

Meanwhile, Virtuos Studio, with the support of Bethesda, is preparing for the imminent (rumor has it, next week) release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The re-release was spotted on the developers’ website the day before.

In a comment to VG247, Skyblivion lead Kyle Rebel, better known as Rebelzize, stated that with the official remaster coming, the team’s plan is simple: “Focus on shipping our version and not getting too excited.”

«Luckily, this whole project was built on passion from the start, and nothing has changed. We are not trying to make money from this. I have spent over 10 years giving this game to fans, and I feel like this is a typical case where the journey is more important than the end goal,” says Rebelzize.

The modder is grateful to Bethesda for allowing Skyblivion to exist in parallel to the official remake at all: “The fact that Skyblivion is even close to a release state is a miracle.”

Skyblivion will be distributed absolutely free of charge, but will require legal copies of both Oblivion (with all add-ons) and Skyrim (regular version or Special Edition) to play.
