The head of Gearbox defended the failed film “Borderlands” and hinted at Borderlands 4

Gearbox co-founder and CEO Randy Pitchford, defending the action-comedy Borderlands released last week on his microblog, dropped another teaser for Borderlands 4.

Let us remind you that “Borderlands” earned mostly negative initial reviews and 8% on the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, and also demonstrated a humiliating, according to Variety, start at the global box office: $16.5 million against a budget of $145 million.

Pitchford also found some positivity in the negative reaction to the film: “That is, what me and my friends do with the Borderlands games, you like even more than the work of some of the most famous and best actors and directors on the planet.”

«I’m extremely flattered! We are working hard for you on what comes next…” Pitchford assured. At the same time, the developer wrote the word for in the tweet as four (four), clearly hinting at the unannounced Borderlands 4.

In a recent interview, Pitchford said that the “best and biggest team [at Gearbox] is currently working on exactly what our fans want from us” and promised not to delay the official announcement.

The latest numbered game in the series, Borderlands 3, was released in 2019 and sold over 20 million copies. The most successful project in the franchise remains Borderlands 2 (2012) with 29 million units sold.
