The game recording feature on Steam has received new features and has left beta – it is now available to all users

Announced at the end of June and until recently at the stage of open beta testing, the function of recording games in the Steam application has become available to all users of the service.

Valve announced that its new built-in gameplay video recording and publishing system has been successfully tested and out of beta, and thanked testers for their feedback and bug reports.

Compared to the beta, several new features have appeared, including the ability to configure recording separately for each game, hotkeys for quickly creating videos, and advanced export settings.

In addition, users now have access to game session viewing mode, a new way to display footage in the “Recordings and Screenshots” section using tags and game data.

Let’s remember that the new set of functions allows Steam users to save their best moments and record entire campaigns, cut out their favorite episodes and share them with friends or on social networks.

The function is available through the Steam overlay in all games and puts almost no load on the system – Nvidia and AMD video cards offset most of the costs. Gameplay recording is also fully compatible with Steam Deck.

Valve says the feature only records games in the Steam client—not the desktop or other programs. Although, if desired, audio channels can be configured to, for example, enable audio recording from voice chats.
