The failure of Concord sealed the fate of the Bluepoint and Bend game services, but both studios were the last to know about it – Sony did not warn employees about the cancellation

Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb shared supposedly insider details on the Game Mess Mornings podcast about the recent cancellation of two game services from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) in-house studios.

Let us remind you that last week, after another audit, SIE decided to stop developing two game services – based on the God of War franchise from Bluepoint Games (a remake of Demon’s Souls) and an unknown project from Bend Studio (Days Gone).

According to Grubb, this happened due to the failure of the hero shooter Concord, which shocked SIE management. Following the closure of the project, the company tightened control over internal developments and especially service games.

As for the announcement of the cancellation itself, the employees of Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio learned about it along with the rest of the world – according to Grubb’s information, the employees were not warned about the fate of their projects.

In a statement to Bloomberg, a Sony representative assured that none of the studios would be closed as a result of the cancellation of games: the platform holder is working closely with each of the teams to decide on their future projects.

According to Grubb, it will be more difficult for Bluepoint and Bend to interest Sony in ideas for a new project than it was before: “Nobody really knows what they [SIE executives] want to hear right now, so the situation is not easy.”
