The developers of the Gothic remake have revealed new details – duration, freedom to explore the world and no New Game +

The head of Alkimia Interactive Reinhard Pollice, composer Kai Rosenkranz and community manager Timur Khodyrev shared details of the remake of the role-playing game “Gothic” in an interview with Wccftech.

According to Rosenkrantz, the world of the remake is open for exploration from the very beginning, but some paths may be blocked by natural obstacles: for example, a strong monster or a locked door (a transformation spell to help).

The main quest will remain largely unchanged, but the list of optional tasks (including for guilds) will expand – in most cases, missions can be completed in random order.

Access to magic in the remake will be available at an earlier stage of the game than in the original Gothic.

The original Gothic was about 20 hours long. Rosenkranz stated that the remake, by expanding the chapters in the middle and end of the story, will increase this figure to 30 hours.

What else did the developers say about the gameplay:

  • Treasure chests can now be found in underwater sections;
  • Players will be able to forge their own weapons;
  • The cooking mechanics have been expanded – it will be possible to fry several pieces of meat at once;
  • Most NPCs will not kill the hero if he is defeated in battle – they are only interested in establishing themselves in the prison colony;
  • The maximum level of character development in the remake is 50;
  • The remake has a complex system of NPC reactions to the player’s actions;
  • There will be difficulty settings, but “New Game +” will not;
  • For greater atmosphere, interface elements appear only when the hero takes out a weapon;
  • The hero’s level of weapon proficiency will be reflected in his animations;
  • More than two hours of music have already been recorded for the remake, which is four times more than was in the original game.

The Gothic remake is based on the Unreal Engine 5 (using Lumen and Nanite technologies). They promise ray tracing, quality and performance modes on consoles, support for PS5 Pro and upscaling technologies on PC.

Gothic Remake is being created for PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The game does not have a release date, but Embracer (owns THQ Nordic) lists the project for the current financial year (ends in March 2025).
