The developer has successfully launched a classic doom on Apple HDMI Crossroads

What progress has reached: even simple adapters in our time are not inferior in power by game PC in the 90s. This was clearly shown by the programmer under the pseudonym Nyansatan on the example of the classic doom shooter from ID Software.

The other day, Nyansatan demonstrated the original doom launched on the digital AV-adapter Lightning from Apple. The adapter was released in 2012, costs $ 49 and allows you to display videos to a large screen with a HDMI connector.

The launch of Doom on such an adapter was possible thanks to the custom system on the crystal (SOC) from Samsung, which includes a microprocessor with the cortex-A5 nucleus and a frequency of 400 MHz, and 256 MB of DRAM memory.

The adapter works on a simplified version of iOS, but does not have a storage, so the enthusiast used MacBook to download the firmware with the file system. Connection to the laptop also needed to control the game.

As Nyansatan explained to the video with a demonstration of the unusual port of Doom, although the game works relatively well, 60 frames/s on Apple accessories have not yet been achieved, but there are chances.

According to Nyansatan, the proper (now it copies only 4 bytes for iteration) the integration of the function that fills the personnel buffers can significantly improve productivity.

Nyansatan plans to improve the port – add the sound output and the game control method without connecting to the Mac computer – as well as release the project software for open access so that everyone can try it.
