The creators of Lineage and Guild Wars have canceled MMORPGs in the universe of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West

South Korean portal MTN reported the cancellation of three games in production by publisher and developer NCSoft (Lineage, Guild Wars, Throne and Liberty), including the unannounced MMORPG based on Horizon.

According to MTN, NCSoft has decided to stop developing projects codenamed Project H, Project J and Project Pantera, which were in the process of being created by three different studios.

It was previously reported that NCSoft is hosting the aforementioned MMORPG in the universe of post-apocalyptic action films Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West from the PlayStation-owned studio Guerrilla Games.

According to MTN, employees associated with Project H left NCSoft or were transferred to other projects within the company. The decision to cancel the game was made at the end of 2024 based on another internal review.

The now-canceled Horizon MMORPG was rumored to be aimed at a global audience and was part of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) initiative to expand its presence in the game-services segment.

Neither Sony nor NCSoft confirmed the project, but in the fall of 2023 they entered into a strategic agreement, under which they promised to cooperate in various areas (including mobile) and “expand the boundaries of gaming even further.”

Meanwhile, online Horizon from Guerrilla itself is in development, which appeared in a gameplay leak from January 2023. The game will offer a new character gallery, stylized graphics and the ability to explore the world with friends.
