This weekend, Steam set a new record for the number of simultaneously online players – on December 8, the online service reached 39,205,447 people. The previous record of 38 million online players was set by the platform in September of this year.
It seems that the release of several new games contributed to the achievement of another record value. Despite the fact that over the past 24 hours, the most Steam users played Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2, the third most popular game was the fresh Path of Exile 2, which will certainly please the developers from Grinding Gear Games. Another just-released game, Marvel’s Rivals, is in fourth place in popularity.
The fifth most popular game on Steam over the past 24 hours is PUBG: Battlegrounds, with Rust, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Call of Duty in seventh, eighth and ninth place respectively. Delta Force, released in early access, rounds out the top ten. Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to gain momentum, with the game being the 12th most popular game this weekend. Farming Simulator 25 was in 17th place, while AE Sports FC 25 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 are located in 23rd and 24th places, respectively.
The new record suggests that Steam has not yet reached its ceiling. Therefore, it is logical that many publishers want to use Valve’s services, because the company’s audience of PC users is huge. It is likely that in the future Steam will exceed 40 million people online.
