Star Citizen is one step away from the crowdfunding record for 2024

The ambitious space simulator Star Citizen from developers from the Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) studio completed 2024 with the second highest crowdfunding result in the history of the project.

As noted by the Simulation Daily portal, the amount of user donations for the development and development of Star Citizen by the end of 2024 exceeded $774 million, which is $116 million more than it was at the end of 2023.

Thus, 2024 became the second most successful crowdfunding year in the history of Star Citizen, behind the record year 2023 ($117 million) and slightly ahead of the result of 2022 ($114 million).

In addition, December 2024 was the most successful December of any year in Star Citizen’s crowdfunding history. Thanks in large part to the release of Alpha 4.0 and the addition of a second star system, Pyro, to the game.

At the same time, in terms of the number of new account registrations, 2024 was only in fifth place with 485,574 accounts. The leader in terms of indicator is 2022 (871,922), and the overall result is very close to 5.5 million (5.489 million).

Fundraising for Star Citizen has been going on for 12 years now – it began in 2012 on Kickstarter, after which it was transferred to the official website. The game is still at the alpha stage and does not even have an approximate release date for version 1.0.

In anticipation of the full release of Star Citizen, the studio intends to release its story branch Squadron 42 – its release is expected in 2026. At CitizenCon 2954, more than an hour of action gameplay was shown.
