Sega showed the first gameplay of Virtua Fighter 6 from the creators of Yakuza, but it’s not real

Japanese publisher and developer Sega, as part of Nvidia’s presentation at CES 2025, gave a small demonstration of the first full-fledged new game in the Virtua Fighter series of fighting games in 19 years.

Let us remind you that the next Virtua Fighter (Virtua Fighter 6 for lack of an official name) was presented in December at The Game Awards 2024 and received its first “gameplay” at CES 2025.

The released 35-second video (embedded below) shows two versions of Akira Yuki – one of the most prominent fighters in Virtua Fighter history – battling in a highly detailed arena.

As IGN journalists note, what is shown is impressive – Virtua Fighter 6 demonstrates quality beyond modern fighting games: Akira’s animations are incredibly realistic and smooth. And there is an explanation for this.

Sega clarifies that the video is a Virtua Fighter 6 gameplay concept recorded in the engine, created before the actual development of the project began, and not actual gameplay.

The showing of “fake” Virtua Fighter 6 gameplay has stirred up memories among fans of that Killzone 2 “gameplay” trailer from E3 2005, although, unlike Sony 20 years ago, Sega is not hiding the true nature of the video.

The release dates and target platforms for Virtua Fighter 6 have not been specified. The Japanese Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, known for the Like a Dragon series of crime action films (aka Yakuza in the past), is responsible for developing the game.
