Last year was a record year for the number of themed promotions and events held on Steam by third-party organizers (more than 900), and also the most successful for seasonal sales (revenue increased by 10% compared to 2023).

The 2024 Deals of the Day featured 1,108 products, 88% of which were first-time selections. This came amid the release of a self-service planner.

2024 is also a big year for new games on Steam

The annual revenue from new game releases has increased almost 10-fold over the past ten years. In 2024, the revenue of more than 500 new products (27% more than in 2023) exceeded $250,000 in the first 30 days, and more than 200 new products (15% more) reached $1 million.

Valve also reported that Steam Deck users spent more than 330 million hours playing games in 2024 (64% more than in 2023). In total, over 17,000 products were recognized as compatible with the portable PC.

In December 2024, Steam’s peak online exceeded 39 million people for the first time, and in March 2025 it reached 40 million

Also in 2024, Valve implemented the game recording feature, Steam Family Groups, released major updates to the shopping cart and demos, began hiding useless reviews, required developers to report the presence of AI content, and much more.

Valve concluded by noting that the work is ongoing: “We’ll be attending conferences, hosting panels, reading forum comments, and working hard on Steam to make even more improvements in 2025.”
