Rumor: Rockstar Will Send GTA VI the Way of Roblox and Fortnite

The hotly anticipated release of Rockstar Games’ open-world crime thriller GTA VI will be just the beginning for the game. Digiday, citing three informed sources, has revealed the studio’s plans.

According to Digiday, Rockstar has been in active talks with leading creators of user-generated content for Roblox, Fortnite, and GTA about creating unique gaming experiences inside GTA VI.

It is believed that Rockstar wants to allow users to modify the game’s environments and assets to create their own intellectual property in GTA VI’s virtual sandbox.

This means that GTA VI could become a metaverse like Roblox or Fortnite, with content creators on those platforms making money from their content, whether through item sales or revenue-sharing programs.

As Digiday notes, Rockstar’s negotiations with modders have so far led nowhere. It’s still unclear, for example, what benefit creators will get from releasing their content in GTA VI, other than coverage in such a major game.

Previously, Rockstar bought (quite possibly with an eye on GTA VI) the Cfx.re team, known for their work on the FiveM and RedM modding tools that allow you to run role-playing servers in GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

GTA VI is scheduled to release this fall on PS5, Xbox Series X, and S. A PC version has yet to be confirmed (though there have been hints), but the management of gaming hardware manufacturer Corsair Gaming predicts a release in early 2026.
