Rocksteady faced layoffs as a result of failed sales of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Recognized by Warner Bros. management. Discovery, the failure of the cooperative action movie Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady Studios hit not only the financial results of the corporation, but also the staff of the studio.

As the Eurogamer portal reported, citing Rocksteady employees, following the weak performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, layoffs took place in the British studio.

The quality control department was reduced by more than half (from 33 to 15 people). Among those who lost their jobs were both junior employees and specialists with five years of experience in the studio.

Employees of other Rocksteady departments were also laid off (one of them learned about the layoff while on maternity leave), but the scale of the situation is not specified at the moment.

Employees who wished to remain anonymous in a conversation with Eurogamer said that with the departure of such a significant number of specialists, even more responsibilities will fall on the shoulders of Rocksteady employees.

The reason for this “restructuring” was directly cited by the company’s management as weak sales of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Rocksteady executives also acknowledged that layoffs would lead to a decline in product quality.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was released on February 2 on PC (Steam, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The failure of the game cost Warner Bros. $200 million and led to a 40 percent drop in Warner Bros. revenue. Games in the second quarter of 2024.
